香港城市大学物理学系原为“物理及材料科学系”，2017年重组后更名“物理学系”。在最近的香港大学教育资助委员会研究评审中，本系在全香港材料科学学科排名第1位、在物理学学科排名第2位。目前，本系有教授、副教授及助理教授共16 名，其中包括4 名APS Fellows、1名 AAAS Fellow及 1名 MRS Fellow。拥有广东省粤港澳中子散射科学技术联合实验室及中国科学院高能物理研究所香港城市大学联合实验室。在读学生本科生约100名及研究生约60名。本系的研究主题包括：理论与计算物理、散射与成像物理、原子分子及光学物理、低维材料、软物质与生物物理，以及应用物理学等。
City University of Hong Kong is a leading and international public research university in Hong Kong, China. As one of the eight higher education institutions funded by the government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, CityU has been listed in the list of national key universities of the Ministry of education. City University of Hong Kong ranks 52nd in 2020qs world’s best university; times higher education ranks 1st in 2019 World University [international vision]; 2020qs [world’s best university less than 50 years after its establishment] ranks 4th; 2020qs university graduates rank 90th in employment; times higher education ranks 15th in 2019 Asian University.The Department of physics of City University of Hong Kong, formerly known as the Department of physics and materials science, was renamed the Department of physics after reorganization in 2017. In the recent research review by the education funding Committee of the University of Hong Kong, the Department ranked first in materials science and second in physics. At present, there are 16 professors, associate professors and assistant professors in the Department, including 4 APS fellows, 1 AAAs fellow and 1 Mrs fellow. It has the Joint Laboratory of neutron scattering science and technology of Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao, and the Joint Laboratory of Hong Kong City University, Institute of high energy physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. There are about 100 undergraduates and 60 postgraduates. The research topics of this department include: theoretical and computational physics, scattering and imaging physics, atomic molecular and optical physics, low dimensional materials, soft matter and Biophysics, and applied physics.
香港城市大学理学硕士(应用物理学) 课程提供应用物理学专业的研究生教育。本专业包括生物医学物理、能源材料物理及高等物理三个方向，开设的课程紧扣相关就业市场所需技能。除进一步加深本科物理知识外，本专业更着重培养学生将物理原理及知识应用于解决相关职业的实际问题。 本专业所提供的课程适合有志于香港、中国大陆和其他东南亚地区从事医疗技术、电子、可再生能源等领域的工程师/研究人员修读。除了拓展和加强学生的就业技能外，本专业亦有助学生于物理、材料科学、电子工程和机械工程等领域申请及攻读博士学位。（备注：2020/2021年暂不提供生物医学物理方向的课程。）
The master of Science (Applied Physics) program at City University of Hong Kong offers postgraduate education in Applied Physics. This major includes Biomedical Physics, energy material physics and advanced physics. The courses are closely related to the skills required by the relevant job market. In addition to further deepening the physical knowledge of the undergraduate course, this major focuses on training students to apply physical principles and knowledge to solve practical problems of related professions. The courses offered by this major are suitable for engineers and researchers interested in medical technology, electronics, renewable energy and other fields in Hongkong, China and other Southeast Asian countries. In addition to developing and strengthening the employment skills of students, this major also helps students to apply for and study for doctorates in physics, material science, electronic engineering and mechanical engineering. (Note: courses in Biomedical Physics will not be offered in 2020 / 2021.)

香港城市大学理学硕士(应用物理学) 课程目标主要有：获得广泛和深入的物理知识和分析技能；运用物理学知识提出创造性、合理性的解决方案；与应用物理学与工程技朮相关的专业人员进行有效沟通；将教科书理论应用于实际问题；能够设计和进行实验，并对实验数据作批判性分析和解释；在应用物理相关子领域能够识别、阐述、解决工程或科学问题，并能提出创新的想法；培养一种以科学逻辑方式展现研究成果的技能；为接受博士教育以及从事前沿科学研究的职业做准备。课程主要包括：必修科目（18个学分）+选修科目（12个学分）。其中，必修科目（18个学分）为研究生层次应用物理核心课程；选修科目有：普通高等物理，能量材料物理以及生物医学物理。课程分为全日制与非全日制两种模式，其中，全日制模式的学习时间一般在1年至2.5年之间，非全日制模式的学习时间一般在2年至5年之间。
Master of Science (Applied Physics), City University of Hong Kong The main objectives of the course are: to acquire extensive and in-depth physical knowledge and analysis skills; to use physical knowledge to propose creative and reasonable solutions; to communicate effectively with professionals related to Applied Physics and engineering technology; to apply textbook theory to practical problems; to be able to design and conduct experiments, and to make critical analysis and interpretation of experimental data; and to apply it in practice Physics related sub fields can identify, explain, solve engineering or scientific problems, and put forward innovative ideas; cultivate a kind of skill to show research results in a scientific and logical way; prepare for the doctoral education and the career engaged in cutting-edge scientific research. Courses mainly include: compulsory subjects (18 credits) + elective subjects (12 credits). Among them, the required subjects (18 credits) are the core courses of graduate level applied physics; the elective subjects are: general higher physics, energy material physics and Biomedical Physics. The courses are divided into two modes: full-time mode and part-time mode. The learning time of full-time mode is generally between 1 year and 2.5 years, while that of Part-time mode is generally between 2 years and 5 years.
